The Page of Swords: Taking the High Ground
Updated: 5 days ago

Another calendar page turns.
Welcome to October -
the CrossRoads between seasons.
A good time to climb a little higher
to see what new opportunities and challenges
lie ahead before you make your next move.

This week …
Regaining Perspective
Pay attention to what may require some distance and reflection this week. It's time to seek higher ground to gain some perspective. Is there a person, situation, or decision that is causing you some doubt, indecisiveness, or confusion? Or a potential opportunity for growth or advancement that has you asking a lot of questions about your current life?
Take some time for yourself away from everyone else's opinions, input, and feedback to see the bigger picture. Approach what lies before you with curiosity, openess to new ideas and ways of seeing, and more questions than answers. You don't have to do anything about it yet. Just notice what is showing up.
Communication Challenges
It’s also a good week to pay close attention to your communication patterns. If you find yourself frustrated and in conflict with others, ask yourself "How am I communicating my boundaries, desires, needs? Am I leading with my first reaction to a situation or what someone is saying or am I taking the time to consider what it is I really want to get out of it? Which approach will make things more clear, direct, and less emotionally charged?"
A shift in tone, word choice, or a question may get you further along the way to a peaceful resolution or livable compromise.
Carrying One Thing Forward
As you move into the end of this week, choose what matters most to carry with you: one question, one conversation, one truth, one small step. Watch where it shows up again or may find a new application.
This Week's Practice
Write: Pick one situation or decision you're unsure about. Write about it for ten minutes without stopping, thinking about what you're writing, or judging. Then read it back and underline what matters most to you.
Photograph: Take a picture of a familiar place from somewhere you don't usually stand. Notice what you see that you hadn't noticed before.
List: Before a difficult conversation, write down two things: how you feel like responding, and what you want the conversation to achieve. Let the second one guide what you say.
